Class of 2018 Early Signees for Charlotte 49ers Football

Class of 2018 Early Signees

December 20th was a busy day for Head Coach Brad Lambert and the Charlotte 49ers football staff. This date marked the inaugural early signing period for college football, which allowed high school student-athletes the opportunity to sign early for the first time. Junior College student-athletes have had the ability to sign mid-year for a while.

As of now Charlotte has the 118th overall class per Please note they do not have WR Rico Arnold listed, who committed last year in the 2017 class as a greyshirt. When providing stats on the class, I’ll work from what 247 has listed.

My thoughts

17 (or 18) seems of guys in mid-year, however quite a few schools took more guys in than we did. This give us 7 or 8 spots to fill come February 7th when the regular signing periods arrives. I think our class is missing an experienced QB, that has clearly been an area where we have struggled offensively under Lambert. Asking a true Freshman in Pope or Redshirt Freshman in Mic Roof to step in to the QB spot and fix the offensive woes is probably not the solution. I feel we should target a JUCO or Graduate Transfer QB to push Klugh for the starting gig.

We do have 19 starters coming back, which is great theory, however we went 1-11 with those guys. I expect a lot of competition this Spring and Fall and to see a good bit of new starters come the 2018 campaign.

I’m a little surprised so far that we only brought in 4 JUCOs early, it’s win-or-go home for Lambert.

As always, stay tuned into @_agent49 for the latest in Charlotte 49ers news.
